Costs and Benefits of Veterinary Pet Insurance

VPI Insurance

Veterinary Pet insurance keeps costs of owning a pet under control and helps pet owners afford the best recommended care of their pets. Insurance can save you hundreds of dollars in emergency bills and treatment of unexpected illnesses. It can also spare you the heartache of having to euthanize your pet because the cost of treatment is too great.

Without insurance the approximate cost of recommended routine care for the first year of a puppy's life (vaccinations, fecal, deworming, microchipping, spay or neuter, heartworm testing, junior wellness profile, advantage and heartgard) $450.00. This does not include treatment for illnesses, accidents, emergencies or prescribed medications.

VPI offers two plans that vary only in their emergency and illness protection.

Approximate Cost of . . .

VPI Superior Plan with Routine Care Coverage for 1 year for a puppy: $307.00

VPI Standard Plan WIth Routine Care Coverage for 1 year for a puppy: $212.00

Routine Care Coverage will cover approximately $240.00 worth of care and there is NO DEDUCTIBLE!

By purchasing medical insurance for your pet, you would not only get reimbursed approximately $240.00 of the $450.00 you spend on your pets routine care, but the insurance will often cover 100% of expenses from illnesses, accidents, emergencies and prescribed medications. The insurance pays for itself with just the routine care coverage, this makes the insurance practically FREE for the first year of coverage. This does not include the money you will be saved each time your pet gets sick and the hospital bills are covered by the insurance company.

Just one example - the number one problem to affect puppies is gastritis (vomiting and diarrhea). The insurance will reimburse the owner for up to $357.00 each time the pet is treated for gastritis. The average cost for treatment of simple uncomplicated gastritis in a puppy is $60.00 - $80.00 for each incident which is well below the insurance allowance.
